Many parents both love and hate the thought of summer vacation. On the one hand, youâre ready to be done with the homework, backpacks full of papers, seemingly endless fundraisers, and getting the kids up and out the door to catch the bus every morning. Summer holds the possibility of a slower pace, fun times together as a family, and the kids being able to wrestle each other outside instead of in the family room! But then thereâs the other side of the summer vacation coin: refereeing the kidsâ fights (also know as âtoo much togetherness syndromeâ), blocking out the whines of âbut thereâs nothing to dooooo,â shuttling kids around from one activity to the next, and discovering that there is only so much time you can be around your children before you start to lose your mind. It seems every season has its pluses and minuses!
A little summer pre-planning can go a long way in maximizing summer benefits for any familyâespecially families living with autism or other disabilities. Here are 5 helpful tips for thinking about and planning your summer months.
1. Plan ahead! The key is not to let summer sneak up on you, and overwhelm you in the process. You know summerâs coming, so commit to making it a great experience for everyone involved instead of a stress-fest for your family. Begin looking into options in your area such as camps, community events, local attractions, parks, and other options that may be available. There are many things that are free or low cost if you take the time to look for them. Just exploring the variety of parks and playgrounds in your area can make for great inexpensive fun. Most larger communities have recreation departments that offer summer activities ranging from sports to art to science.
2. Ensure adequate support for your child. Make sure whatever activities you choose for your child include adequate support for him/her to have a successful experience. There can be a tendency to think that because summer activities donât involve âacademics,â children with autism and other disabilities wonât need as much support. The reality is that these kids need support to navigate the social complexities and expectations of seasonal environments such as camp, vacation Bible school, local recreation events, etc. Supports vary according to the needs of each child, but it is best to determine potential needs and accommodations ahead of time to ensure a positive and productive experience for your child, and less worry for you.
3. Figure out a schedule that is workable for everyone involved. Sometimes in the quest to make sure everyone has things to do, we end up turning ourselves into crazed taxi drivers all summer long. Determine how much time you want to be at home versus other places; and donât go crazy planning something every minute. As much as kids may think they need to be doing something 24-7, there is great benefit to them having some downtime as well. Donât plan so much in your summer schedule that there isnât free time and relaxation.
4. ALL kids need a break from the hectic schedule of the school year! Some parents of children with autism or other disabilities feel that they need to make every moment therapeutic, or have their child involved in some kind of activity or program each day. I have met many families over the years who become stressed at the thought of their child not being in school for the summer. Some of the BEST learning for kids takes place outside the walls of the classroom. You may have been conditioned to believe that what your child needs only happens in a school building, or that you canât possibly provide the same benefits outside a school setting. Nothing could be further from the truth! Allow your child with autism to experience the summer just like other kidsâand watch them blossom in the process.
5. Make time for yourself. All parents need breaks and time to themselves throughout the summer. The previous tips will help accomplish reduced stress for parents by planning ahead for structured activities outside the home, and developing a workable time schedule for those things to happen. Parents also need to allow some time to do things you want/need to do, instead of feeling like you have to entertain your kids all day. Determining a workable schedule that includes time at home together and time doing other activities will help everyone stay saneâmost importantly you!
Summer can be a great time for kids, parents, and families as a whole. A little time spent in planning can make the difference between a successful, rejuvenating summer, and one that leaves you burnt out and longing for September. Look for a future article covering the kinds of questions you should ask when considering summer programs and activities for your child.

Anger management is used in many programs and situations. There are thousands of resources available to those affected by frustration, anger, depression, ADHD and emotional swings. Beside support groups, individual counseling sessions and treatment centres, there are quite a few anger management books available to help people deal with anger-related issues. There are anger management books written focusing on different groups such as children, teenagers, adults, men, women, couples, families and anyone else who is involved in situations which may require anger management advice. Because of these diverse needs, anger management books are written to be understood by the various groups as well as used as tools to control anger and frustration and work through various situations.
Anger management books for adolescents focus on a young person’s reactions to experiences of frustration and anger. Using examples and stories that children can relate to, these books are written in a way that children can learn from them. There are also anger management books for children meant to be used by professionals working through behavioral problems with children. These books include recommendations and strategies for dealing with children who are experiencing difficulties caused by the emotions of anger and frustration. Using these books, programs, effective treatments can be developed for anger management in adolescents.
As with any age group, teenagers deal with unique situations and encounters that only a modern teenager could understand. Anger management for teens would, therefore, be focused on dealing with anger-related issues surrounding teens. Offering advice and lesson plans, these anger management books for teens may provide answers to a young person’s questions dealing with feelings of anger.
Adults with anger-related problems are different from children and teens with anger problems. Adults face daily challenges which children rarely comprehend, situations which unleash all kinds of emotions including anger and frustrations. When anger is the cause of problems at home, at work or among friends, the sufferer would probably benefit from reading anger management books for adults. Couples might be able to find help in these anger management books for adults as well.
When a family is confronted with anger, the scenario can become much more intense and complicated. Since it involves so many people, different relationships and all the different sorts of feelings and emotions in between, a family may require various anger management books. Given the number of resources available, there are certainly anger management books written for families available.
Where would a person find these anger management books? A doctor or medical professional ought to be able to recommend useful anger management books to interested people. A local library would be another good source for anger management books. Local bookstores and online bookstores such as Amazon should be proficient in providing a list of anger management books for all age groups. The Internet is a terrific source of information on anger management. When searching and browsing the related sites, there will be recommendations for anger management books. These sites will also probably provide details about how to obtain a copy of these anger management books.
Once you have found an anger management book that contains pertinent information, techniques and strategies for managing anger, it would be a very good idea to make use of the information in the book to instigate changes and work through your anger problems. Anger management books are useless while they’re sitting on the shelf gathering dust.

A child is often put up for adoption because their parents or parent cannot cope or as in some countries, where the mother is single and having a child in these circumstances is socially unacceptable. The county foster and adoption system ensure that when a child is available for adoption that they are sent to live in the closest available foster home to their prospective parents. Owing to regulations, the Department of Social Services are being pressured into providing a more structured and long term approach to adoption and to allow more children currently in foster homes to be adopted. There are many costs involved in adoption and can depend on how the child is being adopted, but if you are serious about this course of action, do not let financial considerations control your final decision. It’s important that the adoption agency’s license is up to date so check with your states licensing office before you make any commitment to them.
Adoption has many different aspects that need to be overcome. Once all that paperwork is completed, the child has new parents and they have the child they have always wanted. In the United States for instance, when the adoption is finalized, the child’s name is legally changed and the child receives an amended birth certificate on which the adoptive parent(s) name replaces that of the biological or placing parent(s) and the child’s birth name is replaced with his/her new name. If the adopted child is very young then it may be many years and probably when the child is in their teens before they can fully explain the adoption process and the implications so that the child will understand.
International adoption is an alternative for couples who find themselves unable to adopt domestically. Adopting internationally used to mean that children and their adoptive parents would rarely have any birth parent information at the time of adoption and no chance for any information or contact in the future.
Not everyone who adopts is childless though and there are those who may be married or single and already have children or may be childless at the time of the adoption. There are many children worldwide whose only wish is to be part of a loving family and despite many stories to the contrary, adoption opportunities today have improved over recent years.
Even with all the complications the adoption process entails, in the end a child gets a home and both the parents and the child get a family. So for the right couple all the hoops you must jump through are well worth it in the end.

There is a relatively new product that is becoming more and more popular with parents, grandparents and babysitters alike that allow a baby or toddler to be protected from the germs that are on those dreaded grocery store carts – not to mention, they are also cushy so they add comfort for the little ones and also have fun colors and patterns that really attracts their attention.
This clever little invention is not only user friendly, but one-handed user friendly as the maker realizes you will most likely be holding your little one in one arm while you secure the cover with the other. It takes about 10 seconds to throw the cover into place and secures with Velcro straps.
What bothered me was that the girl was trying to chew on the handle bar of the shopping cart. Does your little one ever try to do that?
For added protection, take extra steps and carry with you disinfectant wipes to wipe off areas that will make contact with the cover. You may find that some stores will have wipes available upon entering the building.
You can find baby cart covers online such as handmade4baby.com. Their covers are hand-crafted and can be customized with a personal design of your choice. Use them in standard or in double warehouse carts. Are you having a family outing at the restaurant? These covers can be used for restaurant high chairs also. Maybe you would prefer an original 3 in 1 custom order that contains the cart cover, tote bag, and functions as a pillow.
All you need to keep your baby safe at the supermarket is an inexpensive shopping cart cover. They come in different colors and styles but they all work the same way. Just keep the cover in your car and use it every time you go to the store. It fits snugly over any shopping cart and protects your baby from harmful germs.
But have no idea what to do without the baby sitter? Are you looking for some way to be able to take your little baby boy along with you? Well, Caden Lane has the solution to your problem. Caden lane is one of the most popular brands, when it comes to making kids look special. This designer brand is all you need to help your little gems shine and get all the attention. Caden lane has a wide range of products, and they are designed to deal with the day to day problems faced by today moms and dads. Covering a wide range of products, Caden Lane knows exactly what you need, from baby?s bibs to crib sheets; you name it and its there. That is why here at Pure and Honest Kids, there is a complete collection of Caden Lane products, so you get the best.
Some websites offer custom made covers where you can add the baby’s name – which is always a nice touch. I’m always on the search for a really nice, unique gift and not only is this one of those products, but this is actually extremely useful – the recipient will really appreciate it – and so will the baby – those grocery cart seats can’t be comfortable.

We all had a most favorite stuffed animal when we were young, and as adults, this fondness of our stuffed toys has prompted us to become collectors of them, especially those made by Steiff.
Stuffed animals that are in great condition are sought after by collectors at auctions and fairs.
The Steiff stuffed animals history begins in the town of Giengen an der Brenz in Germany, around 1880.
Margarete Steiff made toy animals from her own designs as a hobby, she was wheelchair bound at the time.
They were mostly of dogs, cats, pigs and elephants.
The company, as we know it today, began when Margarete’s nephew Richard Steiff invented the first bear with jointed limbs in 1902.
This bear with jointed limbs became popular worldwide, and as a result, it was the winner at the World Exhibition that was held in 1094 in St. Louis.
It became known as a teddy bear, as in honour of President Teddy Roosevelt.
With their stuffed animals still produced today in the town of Giengen, the Steiff company is known for their high quality animals.
Giengen is a mecca for admirers of the products as there is an Adventure Museum as well as the factory.
The museum tells the history of the products and a gift shop sells bears, replicas of past animal products, historic catalogues and porcelain.
The Classic range by Steiff is considered the top of the line, featuring Steiff stuffed animals that are hand made.
Several of the designs are said to date back to the early 1900′s.
You can even see the special Valentine Bear, with a stiched on heart. It is a wonderful and romantic gift idea.
Steiff creations include a wide range of popular characters such as Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tiggy Winkle hedgehog and characters from Beatrix Potter.
Another children’s favorite is available in Paddington Bear, with his trademark blue hat and red duffle coat.
The majority of Steiff baby animals are created with babies and toddlers in mind.
Crafted from high quality, durable materials, the collection includes kittens, puppies and lambs.
The Cosy Animal selections by Steiff are machine washable. Other products in the line include clothing, bags, keyrings and gift sets made especially for children.
Another great collection is the Steiff Limited Edition selection that showcases a pink and grey replica of the world famous 1908 teddy bear.
This selection also includes a Pierrot Bear, a Moon Bear and a fantastic Grizzly Bear.
Another one of my favorites in this range is the famous character from story books, the Rubert Bear.
Although Steiff produces several categories of stuffed animals, the will always be known for creating the teddy bear.
