Are Dress up Games a Good Choice for Little Girls?

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

No longer are little girls dreaming of having a baby doll that they can dress up in cute pink little outfits. Those kind of dolls might have been popular years ago but they are not anymore. The dolls that children are playing with these days are not plastic dolls that come with clothes and accessories. The modern form of the doll is the virtual doll that is in online dress up games. There are many different online dress up games where you can find these virtual dolls and their virtual clothes and accessories. These games give children the opportunity to dress and re-dress the dolls over and over again and there are no expensive dolls and doll clothes to buy.

What exactly do you have to have to play these games? The only things you need are a computer connected to the internet and your imagination. The clothes for these games do not need to be washed, dried and ironed or even stored in your home. All you do is drag and drop the outfits you want to put on the virtual doll. That is much easier than putting some of those complicated doll outfits on baby dolls.

You may wonder if these online dress up games are safe for your children to play or if you should be worried. You may also wonder if there is any educational value in these games or if they are just a waste of time. Your children are not going to improve their math skills, knowledge of science or history or their spelling abilities while playing these games but they can help them express their creativity and use their imagination. By creating outfits that go together children are learning about style, shapes and color and improving their artistic abilities. These online dress up games can lead to an interest in other artistic hobbies like drawing or painting. They can also help your children discover if a career in fashion design is the right path for them.

The best thing about online dress up games is they bring out your child’s creativity and encourage them to use their imagination. The games may seem silly and trivial and you may wonder what your children could possibly get out of putting party outfits and swimming outfits on virtual dolls and then changing them into rocker outfits. What are the benefits?

Something to keep in mind is that these games encourage creativity and are a much better thing for your child to be doing than playing some of the extremely violent and graphic video and online games that are out there. There is little or no chance your child is going to be harmed or suffer mental issues as a result of dressing up virtual dolls but you can’t say the same for bloody, violent game.

Terrible Twos Tantrums

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

When children start to have a mind of their own the tantrums begin. Toddlers have trouble communicating and this causes them to become frustrated to the point that they end up throwing a tantrum.

The important thing is to stay consistent with discipline and do not give in. If they learn they get their way by throwing a fit they will continue to do it and it will get worse.

Learn to recognize the signs when your child is getting ready to have a tantrum. When you see those signs try to defuse and redirect their attention to something else.

Tantrums can be caused by lack of sleep, being hungry, sick or just needing a little extra attention. That still doesn’t make it okay, but once they have settled down you need to address that.

When the tantrum starts leave the room and ignore the child. Let them know that this is not a good way to get your attention.

You need to remain calm and try not to get angry. Stay firm on the decision you made before they started the tantrum.

It always seems like this happens in public and it is mortifying to have everyone looking at you and wondering how you are going to handle the situation. Hold strong even though it seems like everyone is judging you.

If your child is old enough to understand you can give them a warning. This can be a time out in a chair or going to the other room by themselves. If you are out in public it may even mean going home. Let them know if they continue there will be consequences for their actions. Allow one minute for each year of the child.

Save the Earth, love your Kitchens!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

This article is written to provide us with the second part of the “Earth Day Celebration at our own kitchens”. Thanks to media and the Internet, Earth Day is able to reach the radars of people around the globe. Earth Day is a day wherein we dedicate our hands into caring for our environment and keeping it safe. At Iowa craft fairs, they provide free lessons and tutorials into how to celebrate Earth Day right into our own homes and backyards. Here are some of the tips I got from those which I would like to share with you today:

First tip is to place potted plants right in your kitchen windows. Potted plants serve as great air filters and carbon dioxide reducers to your homes. They are also great in trapping the “food smells” and in giving your kitchens a fresh air. Aside from all of these listed benefits, potted plants are also great as decorations and improving the aesthetic appeal of your kitchens.

Tip number 2: when you are in the midst of remodeling your kitchen cabinets, just try to strip off the paint and place your new desired color paying particular attention to paint products that are low in VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). This method is relatively easier, more cost-efficient and is more beneficial to the environment as your trash bin will not pile up with old cabinet junk.

Tip number three: try to salvage your old furniture pieces so you don’t have to buy something new. If you are in need of an extra china cabinet in your kitchen to store your precious plates and utensils, try to place an old bookshelf into the wall. Your old bookshelf will have a new, creative reuse as a kitchen china cabinet. Loving our planet means conserving our resources and doing everything to clear the air of its toxins- one at a time.

If visiting in Iowa, try to attend the craft fairs and sign up for the free Earth Day lessons. Be informed of the ways on how you can save our dear Mother Earth from terrible danger.
